Painting my name
I did my first graffiti piece in 1993 when I was fifteen years old and it brought a real passion for creation into my life. As such, I count the first day of my artistic career from this moment. First, I chose the name SPLASH, then it was CAKES, because “Cák” means splash in the Czech language. Three letters is too short of a word for graffiti, so I extended it to Cake, then finally it became CAKES. Afterwards, I looked it up in the dictionary and found what it means in English. I was disappointed, but it was challenging at the same time to give another meaning to this word for my work as a graffiti writer. I have been doing graffiti for more than two decades, I traveled the world, and painted all kinds of locations with all kinds of surfaces. It was amazing to create and have the theme set all the time – CAKES in a different million forms. I’m amazed at how long I stuck with it until I changed my letters to POINT realizing these letters had much more meaning universally and experimented with different techniques. Until I left the graffiti letters for good to find universal language of abstraction.
