Painting with Knife
After painting circular intersections, where sprayed shadows evoked the illusion of depth, I thought to push it to be more sophisticated, and physically create shadows by cutting through canvases in the shape of a circle, then build upon one another effectuating dimensions and numerous layers. I like the illusion of playing with the inside shadow and the concept that you’re not sure if it is a positive or negative space. What are you looking at?
I was inspired by Lucio Fontana at that time, but a few years later when I was in Italy, I came across Paulo Scheggi and his work brought me to another level of my own.
