Illegal Art in a Legal World
The first international exhibition in the Czech Republic to present the controversial phenomenon of graffiti and street art in a gallery setting. The individual areas and styles that intersect will reveal the formal and content diversity of this street art expression that knows no boundaries. Graffiti is now an integral part of gallery collections around the world and has a history of almost 50 years. The exhibition City Obsessed is an international project that will show that the essence of this now recognised but still debated artistic expression can be, besides revolt, a deep relationship with the city and all its forms. The uniqueness of the exhibition also lies in the fact that most of the artworks in the space of the City Library will come into being and disappear. Transience, as a fundamental characteristic of graffiti and street art, will only be negated by the display of photographs and videos documenting things that have long since disappeared.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a rich program that will include outdoor installations and artistic interventions in public space.
